Color change question

maizeysdad Jul 14, 2005 04:06 PM

Hi,

I'm a boa newbie and just fed my little girl her second meal since I got her.

About 45 minutes after she ate, she turned much darker than I have seen her and the pink on her sides really came out strong. She was basking under the light when it happened.

Is this normal? What can you tell me about color variations in the same animal?

Thanks,

Ken

My colombian changes color throughout the day. In the day time he is much darker, at night (around 9 pm) all his greys lighten up considerably. I don't really know what causes it. I've heard some even change depending on their moods.

Most of my boas get darker afer eating. Since darker hues absorb more sun, I assume the color change is to help the boa absorb heat from the sun which in turn would aid in digestion.

Some boas get darker during the day and lighter at night. Again this is likely to take advantage of the daytime's heat.
