humidifier......

mmmthasgood1 Jul 14, 2005 06:05 PM

i asked awhile ago about a humidfier and everyone said it was a bad idea...well even though I cover most of the screen top, the humidity goes fast..i was thinking just use it every once in a while for a few seconds to get the humidity back up...so its not constant....its just really annoying to keep spraying water in there all the time......

You are being way to anal retentive. Just put a hide box in ther and leave the snake alone for a while to acclimate. Put the water dish partially over the heat tape and you will be fine, It will create some humidity that you can augment with spraying when the animal is in shed. It sounds like you are completely stressing the animal out.

Oh and by thw way yeah it can kill at just a week or two ole so I think its capable. And how do you think they eat in the wild? Mom does not prekill and then reheat for baby.

1. You don't want a mister or humidifier in your tank.
2. You have not really described your set up and it's hard to give advice based on nothing - what is your humidity level?

From what I have been able to gather from your previous posts:

First - have you replaced those analog guages with a digital thermometer/hygrometer? If not - do that first. Then find out what they actual themperature and humidity levels are and get back to us.

Assuming you in fact have a humidity issue:

From what I remember you are using newspaper - you may need to switch to a substrate that holds and releases water better like cypress.

If you are using a screen top - you'll need to cover it - IMO plexiglass works best.

If you are using a heating lamp of any kind they suck out humidity you should find alternative ways to heat your cage.

Again your first step is to get a good digital thermometer/hygrometer don't skimp this will be your friend for many years.

If misting the cage is really that much of a hastle for you - maybe you should consider a hermit crab.

i want the humidity right...but i want it warm,,,,arg!!!
