Question about yellow fungus..

drunkmike Jul 14, 2005 07:12 PM

I only recently heard about this problem with beardies and havnt been able to find alot of info on it.. I had my adult male out earlier and saw that he has some yellow spots on his beard that *look* like they are part of him and not the fungus but I'm scared now that he has something. They are almost in a pattern and like I said look like they are supposed to be there.. He just shed not that long ago and I'm wondering if maybe they were there before and I just never noticed them? My beardie HATES to be layed on his back or anything so I never had a reason to look under there.. ideas? Its more towards the middle of his beard and not out towards the mouth and it kinda is in a pattern. Ideas on this or can anybody tell me if this fungus is actually like.. growing on the beardie to where you can feel it or tell its there? Help me out I'm scared for my big boy!

i think it might be his coloring, because my female has those specks too.
I found a ranom pick on Google:http://home.comcast.net/~holachapulin/Images/Mobelly.jpg
that shows yellow fungus.

Yellow fungus is something actually on the scales/skins, not in them, if the scale/skin looks normal otherwise, chances are it is the coloration of the dragons OR something innternal in the dragon that is coming out in a yellow colorations.,, ie, some illnesses can express themselves in a bearded dragon as a yellow discoloration around the mouth, neck or belly. BUT, with that you usually have other symptoms, such as not eating, lethergic, parasites or even treatment with meds can cause it.

So, if all else seems normal, chances are it is just his color.

Here is a photo of a dragon with Yellow Fungus Disease, but if you look in his beard spike area up higher, you can see the normal yellow color he has, those spikes are normal, but you can see the area that is not normal or healthy
