Introducing the Oxy/Jansen hybrid!

c&f Jul 14, 2005 08:25 PM

These 4 little gems are hybrids between a black Janseni male and a normal green Oxycephala female. The snakes pictured are actually 1 month old and are from the second clutch that I have hatched thus far. They look very much like a normal oxycephala when they hatch, and the pics my next 2 posts show a 6mo old still retaining the green coloration.

I have received 3 clutches from this pair of snakes in approximately 1 year with the 4th on the way, but the fertility appears to be going down, so we'll have to see what the future holds. Presently I have only 2 apparently viable eggs out of the 3rd clutch, and every clutch has had a total of 5 eggs.

This is my 6mo old Oxy/Jansen. He actually appears to be lightening up a bit, and I'm still wondering if he will actually experience any drastic color change as he grows. Now that he has caught on to the concept of eating he has actually become a rather violent killer thrashing F/T fuzzies around like rag dolls. Quite a bad temper for such a little snake! Very much like his mother in the attitude department I might add!

Thanx! I certainly agree that it will be very interesting to see what becomes of them. I'll be sure to update changes.
