lamp or heat pad?

igotthatfeeling Jul 14, 2005 08:34 PM

What is the best way of heating for GTPS?

babies? heat pad or lamp?

yearling? heat pad or lamp?

adults? heat pad or lamp?

I know either are OKAY but I want to know what everyone is using

I would stay away from a lamp. They dry out enclosures, they get too warm at the source, they can burn out during not so oppertune times.

I heat all babies with heat tape or heat rope. Adults get proproducts heat panels.

I use the same thing as Julian. I have tried the heat lamps and I couldnt control the humidity at all, so everything is now in racks with heat rope and the adults are all using heat panels.

Blah, blah, blah.....as I've always said, anything that produces heat will dry out the air. Not picking on you Julian. Heat panels are no better than lightbulbs other than you don't have to replace them every year. I've been using lights for 10 years. As long as you use the right bulbs, there are NO worries. Nothing more than a 40W in a large enclosure. Depending on the time of year, I used bulbs as low as 7W......and I've never used a thermostat on a cage. Good luck.

OK Brandon. But what if you wrote a book and had a website and Forum page? Do you think you would get anything from the company that you promote? Would you encourage their "Pro" product?

I use flexwatt inside of pvc perches.

Greg talks about heating the perches and doesn't recommend it. It doesn't allow the snake to ever find a cooler or warmer spot. It also makes them lay directly on a heat source that they may not want at that time. I know mine moves around quite a bit from directly under the lamp, to a corner away.
