I have a few questions, if you go to our web-site most of the info you need with respect to husbandry can be found there. If you take the ants and put them in the refridgerator for 15 or 20 minutes this will slow them down so they don't move as fast, only put in 3 or 4 at a time and also if the temps in the cage are too low then he will not be active or eat. A healthy lizard will eat 100 to even 200 at a sitting. YOu can also supply 1/4" crickets as a secondary food item, but in order to maintain healtht hey need ants as a regular part of their regimium. So we need to know what kind of cage you have and the type of lighting and the tempreture of your basking side as well as the cool side. This is one reason why I am personally against the indiscriminat sale of horned lizards as they do take some special care and a real committment and expenditure for food to keep them healthy. There may be someone that may want it, but you might take it back to the seller and ask them not only to take it back but not to sell these to people that are inexperienced with reptiles in order make sure they have a good quality of life. It's not your fault, I see this all the time, without informed oversight a 7 year old probably is not a good candidate for these. WHat you might consider in the future is a bearded Dragon, don't buy a a baby, but a small younf bearded dragon. They make excellent pets, there is a lot of info on them, and have long life spans. Read up first so you know what your getting into, there is alo a forum here on KIngsnake as well. Cheers!!! YOu might consider taking this e-mail with you to the pet shop and if they have any questions.....
