sexing question, please help! (pic to help)

Well, I bought this ball python a few months ago and was hoping to get your opinions on sexing it!

"it" is big, around 1600 gram mark, 3 years old. It was sold to me as a female, and it was originally sold to them as a hatchling female as well. She probes in at 6-7 scales and none of my females ever really go in more than 3-4 scales, so I thought this might be a male. We were given advice to just let it be for a few days and try again, and same thing, 7 scales in.

So, male or female, what's your thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Jessy

You may want to check for sperm plugs, a male of that age and size should have them. Absence of sperm plugs should confirm it is a female.
Hope this helps.

I have a few females that probe 7 deep. My males are normally at least 9 deep on both sides. On the sperm plugs, don't let that be your only indicator though. Sometimes males are "dry" while other times it's a pain to get the plugs out.

Thank you for both of your responses, they are encouraging! When we tried a few weeks ago, we did not see any sperm plugs, and all our males that size go in at least 9 as well.

I guess we will try again in a few months to see about sperm plugs, and then eventually put her with a male to see what happens!

Here's hoping *crosses fingers*, cuz she's one of the best looking normal ball pythons I've seen!

You're welcome. Hopefully she does well for you and maybe this time next year you'll have some baby spiders?
