When to worry about nonfeeding babies?

BrianT Jul 14, 2005 09:55 PM

Been lurking around this forum for a while checking out the new morph photos just thinking about when I get to post my hatchling pics next year. I've hit a bit of a snag though. The male of my project pair is an '05 and has not eatten yet (he was born in March I believe?). I've tried pinkies and fuzzies and all he does is hiss at them and shy away. His mother has also not eatten since I purchased her several months ago, but she's a BIG girl and I'm not really worried bout her just yet. As for my other three, my het pied male and my two normal males have all eatten live mice without a problem. They have all shed numerous times since I purchased them, they're not sickly, they drink, etc...but won't eat. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brian

If your 05 baby has never eaten but was hatched in March, I would definately be worried! Are you saying he has never, ever fed from the time he hatched in March until now? If so he has to be incredibly thin and weak. Or am I misunderstanding you?

I will let them go about a month after hatching. Then, I assist feed them a small fuzzy mouse. I'd try offering a live fuzzy a week after the assist feed. If he didn't take it I'd assist feed him again. Usually by a couple of assist feedings they go on their own.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks, Christy

No actually, he's neither weak nor thin. As far as I know he didn't feed at the breeders place and has yet to feed here. And I made mistake in my previous post, he was actually born in Late April/Early May.

It's time to get him going. I'd assist feed him a small mouse fuzzy (small because they go down easier). Give him five or six days, offer him a small hopper. If he does not take it, assist feed him another fuzzy. I bet in a meal or two he'll be on track!
