near death disaster.more

Yesterday by UTH heater that i use for my 88gram ball python, in a 42 qt sterilite tub, overheater and burnt up. It was very hot and burned the tub, the towel in was in (i dont use uth directly on plastics tubs) and put a giant burn on the carpet.

My ball was in shed and did have the sense to move, and he almost got cooked. For a while after that he just "gazed" and open his mouth gasping for air. He looked pretty bad like he was going to die.

On instinc i figured he was dehdryated and really needed to be rehydrated to shed, i put him in a smaller tub with wet paper towels, and soon enough he started to shed.

Now he 100% better, he moves around, flickers his tounge and looks great after his shed (he defecated 3 times in one week wow!!)

I know post like this dont usually get replies. but i had a near death experience with my snake and hes ok. thanks

I'm glad your snake is OK. I would hate to lose a ball; especially by that kind of accident.

Why in the world would you place a UTH on carpet. That is why it overheated and YOU almost killed your snake.

ok now, people make mistakes, but are you saying that my reptizoo uth overheating was supposed to happen. it shouldnt matter what i put it on, it shouldnt overheat and burn itself to a crisp.

Zoomed UTH will burn any plastic and many ball pythons if not used EXACTLY as directed. It says so in the directions.

They even say to use their product you should buy ANOTHER product, the reptitherm rheostat, to cool the pad off. Now if they'd just make the pad a bit cooler all would be well. I have showed them images and made many phone calls to no avail. They say if the snake is burned it is "because the owner used the pad incorrectly". The pet keeper has an injured snake and I am supposed to add insult to injury by telling them they did something wrong AND need to buy another product. I say "why make a pad that has the mere POSSIBILITY to burn plastic or snakes". I once saw a cracked tank because the pad made the glass so hot that when the water bowl was spilled it cracked the unevenly heated tank.

We don't sell Zoomed UTH for these reasons.
