Going to Florida, what to do?

blueharlequin Jul 15, 2003 06:22 PM

Hey folks. I thought about posting this to the general forum, and may yet, but this is really the only one I post on...
Anyway, I'm going to Florida on Thursday and was interested in doing some sort of herpstuff. I'll be in Jacksonville and later, Orlando. Anybody got any good suggestions for herp-related activities?

Depending on how long you are going to be there, the Jacksonville Herpetological Society will meet next on Wednesday, August 6. The Jax zoo has a decent reptile collection and the St. Augustine alligator Farm is definitely worth a visit.

Depending on where in Fla you're going, there are tons of things to do. Lizards are everywhere! Just poking around should surprise you with a few specimens. When I was in Southern Fla a while back, I took and everglades boat tour. (Air boat) We saw gators, snakes, and other local flora and fauna. It was an interesting trip. In Northwest Fla is a place called Homosassas Springs. Manatees abound, as well as cottonmouths, gators, anoles, etc.... Post pics of your trip!

Hi, while you are in Orlando, take a trip to St. Cloud to the Serpentarium (about 25 min). You will see all the Florida natives as well as many other hot snakes. Make sure you time it to view a venim "milking." Quite an experience.
