tigris venom...

lateralis Jul 15, 2005 01:16 PM

reading through the remarks in Ernst's review of the Tiger rattlesnake (for the umpteenth time)I marveled once again at the nature of this little fellows venom. I wonder if there is any recent data on envenomations by this species? In his remarks Ernst reported that envenomation in humans resulted in little local reaction and limited systemic reaction. I wonder if the baseline data was good? That seems odd considering the components involved and the immunoidentity with crotoxin and Mohave toxin. Someone more versed in this area care to share? I think they are one of the neatest species in the U.S. personally, does anyone else work with them other than Mr. Goode?

I have read a great deal on tigers and specks, but I have not yet had the priv. of working w/ tigers nor do I have any experience w/ there venom. I have read that the envenomation in humans resulted in little local reaction and limited systemic reaction. But I have also read that the tiger is definatly not a snake to get tagged by (that its name was derived from its fierce venom) I am not exactly sure where I read that at, it may be the mattison (rattler) book or another. i will have to check for sure. It really seems like the tigers would be a really potent rattlesnake, like the speck. Also, in the mattison book it mentions the fact the speck and the tigers may have a bit of neurotoxic venom. Reason being is that obviously, neurotoxic venom works quicker on lizards, and sence the environment is basically all rocks etc. it would help to venom work really fast than have your lizard fall in between two cracks to where you(snake)cant get it out. Thanks for asking this question because I to am very interested to hear what other people have to say about the tigers venom, thanks for letting me ramblr, not that it helped anyone! Rootsrok
