Green Collared lizard breeding

patrickcrowley Jul 15, 2005 03:21 PM

Hi! Perhaps you maybe able to help me. I have two Green collard lizards (male and female). The female is pregnant and has been for about 30 to 40 days. She will not eat either. She appears to be fine but stopped eating about 6 days ago. The only info I can find is that she carries the eggs for about 20 days and then they take 2 to 3 months to hatch. My concern is the longer time she is holding the eggs and not eating. I keep the tank at about 85 degrees.

Just thought you might have some insight.

Thank you.

Patrick

Sounds like she's ready to lay those eggs. Dampen a corner in which you have placed a deep area of sand. Support a nice flat rock by placing a couple of bricks on the bottom of the tank. Plut the flat rock on top and dig in a small area where the female can see a place to start digging. It's hard to say for certain when they actually become gravid. Perhaps she reabsorbed the first set of eggs.

The are has to be well prepared, or sometime they will refust to lay them. Good luck!

Also get your temperature up a bit, basking area should be 100 - 105 (110 is acceptable) during the afternoon sometimes mine heads up to that.
The whole rest of the tank should be in the high 80's to 90 degrees.

In the link below, hit Frequently Asked Questions / FAQ up top of the page, may be helpful, with egg laying also.
