Respiratory Infection???

12JC21 Jul 15, 2005 05:04 PM

I read that a crusting around the eyes of a tortoise (Sulcata), is a sign of a repsiratory infection. Well, today I got home from work and went to check on Sully... and shim's little eye had what looked like dead skin or something on it. I tried gently removing the substance, but I had no luck. it is very light, almost white. It is only evident on one eye. I tried to get a picture... but it isn't clear enough to tell. I am just concerned... I don't want shim to get hurt. My tortoise has still been eating very well, is decently active, and is still responsive when I attempt to remove shim from the cage. Just some dirt or should I keep a closer eye on him?

Thanks!

Some signs of RI- Runny eyes and nose, labored breathing, nostril bubbles, lethargy, lack of appetite. The best thing I've found for eye problems is a product called Turtle Clear Eyes (recommended by my tortiose Vet.). It's made by Herptafauna (Spelling), It's sold at most major pet supply stores.
