taming this lil guy down a bit....

yavannaus Jul 15, 2005 05:30 PM

I am having so much trouble with my new igg. He is a juvinile that i adopted from the petstore i work at. I've had him for about 2 months, and he is still a lil piss ant. Should I be holding him every day? I've tried handfeeding him to earn some trust from him, but he's just not interested.
This is getting really frustrating. My first ig was tame when I adopted her, so I've never had to deal with this. I'm afraid of him not becoming tame early enough, and ending up being an ass forever. Would it help if he were moved out into the living room, and out of the same room as my other ig?

Moving him away from the other iguana is a good idea. and, the way to get an ig used to being handled is to handle him more. Hopefully he's still youg and can't inflict serious bites. Keep the chases short so his adrenaline doesn't rise too high.

thanks roger.
i am planning on getting a cage from cages by design soon. i'm selling my 55gal tomarrow, so i will finally have room in the living room for an ig enclosure.
right now, the iggies have the guest bathroom to themselves. it's been working out great. it stays nice and warm and humid for them. i'll be glad when i have the cage though. something nice to show off my new ig in. and hopefully, it will be easier to clean as well.
i guess the new ig isnt really that aggresive, he's just really flighty. he has never bit me, and i've had him for about 2 months, and before he came home, i was in charge of him at the pet store i work at. he had been in the store for about 6 months before he came home with me.
he is just now getting to the point where he will ride around on my shoulder for about 5 mins before he tries to take off.
