Overly busy ball pyton...anyone else?

autotunz Jul 15, 2005 07:04 PM

I have two male ball pythons. One acts like a typical ball python and isn't very active. The other is non-stop movement during all waking moments. He is constantly going up the glass toward the top of his enclosure...which is usually followed by a fall. I'm concerned that he's going end up injuring himself by all the falls he's taking. He loves to get out and be held or allowed to crawl around the floor, desktop, etc. He's extremly friendly and docile. I've tried him in another enclosure, but he does the same thing. Temps & humidity are fine. He's eating and shedding normally. I put a tree in his enclosure and he uses that, but he will also just stretch his body up toward the top of the cage. I've never seen one so active.

Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences?

i know i dont keep a ball python...but what im thinking its just a very active snake, i know herps are very different from mammals but the same concept can be brought in, my female cat is much more active than the males, so maybe personality just differs between the snakes or maybe you just got a weird snake because as you said everythings is fine...

LOL, keep an eye on him. He's lookin' for a weak spot in the lid. They're notorious escape artists.

You're probably right...I put him in a Vision cage for a few days and he was nosing and bobbing and weaving at the glass doors. I guess he thinks he's an "indoor" snake and shouldn't be in a cage!
