Folks,

Please be aware that subjects of a highly off topic nature do not belong here. If you have something that is extremely off topic or way off base in regards to the discussion of BOAS (such as politically charged commentaries), please take it to the Open discussion forum that has been set aside for this type of stuff.

... sometimes I want to discuss OT themes with people that I know. And I don't know anyone in the open forum.

Furthermore the number of responses show that the others here are also interested in discussing OT themes here occasionally.

So why be so stringent?

Come on over to the Off topic forum Herman. Everybody is waiting for you there. The whole thread has been moved there.

terdball Jul 15, 2003 09:26 PM

I meant the "open discussion" forum.

Thank you for the hint, I appreciate it. After contemplating the matter I must say that the moderator is right.

This forum is not an appropriate place for such a discussion.

I am thinking that you are.....so, let's go about it this way. You catch me breaking a law, and tell me the law(RULES) and I come back with....but look around lots of people are doing it, so it must be a stupid, law, why be so stringent.....are you going to let me go? As a cop(If I'm correct about that) I would think you of all people would understand why we have rules/laws in our societies and be willing to follow the rules/laws that are set forth by the governing bodies(in this case Kingsnake) and just do as asked. If you want to talk about OT conversations with people you know, there's always telephones, fax, e-mail, cell phones, your trip to Daytona in August, the Forum previously mentioned, various chat rooms, your OWN web site which you could create your own forum within et cetera. The resource here is enjoyable most the time, so why try to bend it to fit our every need when all we need to do is follow a FEW SIMPLE RULES? Just my .02 and not meant to be an attack on you or anyone else, just plain ol' "food for thought". Take care.

I do think it's a little unfair that when an off topic debate that gets quite big (and is therefore of interest to many people) it is removed, although one that doesn't stimulate people's thinking is acceptable. Anyway, you make the rules, we just have to abide by them I guess!

snowcrash Jul 16, 2003 09:27 AM

No , It was not unfair to remove it. You could make a post about abortion or religion and get 1,000 responses, that dosent make the Boa forum an appropriate place to post it. We all have different opinions on alot of political, religeous, or moral topics and if we all made statments about them on the boa forum it would quickly degenerate into a constant flame war. There are plenty of open forums on the net that welcome political discourse.

I agree. This is a Boa forum, just like the Ball Python forum is for Ball Python talk, etc etc. Kingsnake made an off-topic forum for the very reason of discussing off-topic debates and no one uses it. If a person wants their friends on a particular forum to see their topic, they should _privately_ contact those they wish to see it and tell them its in the off-topic forum. Its not that hard-anyone who doesn't want to do that or check the off-topic forum once in awhile is just plain too lazy to click their mouse button.

I for one get sick of having to waft through off-topic messages to see the on-topic ones, and feel 'put out' by religious and political debates anyway-and I'm sure others here feel the same.

Just my $0.02.

Well, at the time I wasn't aware of the Open Discussion Forum. But can't you see, even YOU are participating in the same damn discussion here, and this thread increases in size. Why not just email me or remain silent, so like you say, we can concentrate on boas?

snowcrash Jul 16, 2003 01:30 PM

Because I'am discussing the rules for posting on the boa forum, not the pros and cons of government policy.

herpconsultants2 Jul 16, 2003 03:25 PM

Look, I think I said in my reply to PH that Rules were to be abided by. If you care to look on the Open Discussion forum you'll see we're discussing things there! Boas, you said. Let's talk about boas!

>>Well, at the time I wasn't aware of the Open Discussion Forum.

Actually the open discussion/open debate forum was incorporated into the new lineup when we initiated the stress test of the new forum system back in February, and was reinstated along with all of the other forums when we went fully live in May.

It is actually very fair. It has been made clear in the past by the moderators that while some off topic discussion is permitted on the forums from time to time, if an off topic subject crosses the line and becomes outright disruptive to a particular forum then that discussion will be moved off.

Unlike the old forums, the new forums provide the ability for certain moderators to MOVE a discussion from one forum to another if it has been determined that it is in the best interests of everyone to have that discussion moved elsewhere rather than just completely take all access to that discussion off of the forums.
