hi shvar! nice pics! I have a few questions for you; i noticed that the baskingspot of sobek is just above his hiddingplace, so perhaps the hiddingplace is very warm to,is that ok? most times people make their monitor hiddingplace as far from the baskingspot as possible. Second question; you once wrote sobek grew up to 5ft lenght in its first year,at the end of the second year sobek was 6ft,and now at 3.5years old she is 6,3ft. That means she grew only 0.3ft in 1,5years. Would sobek have reached its current totall lenght if,for example, you would have bought her at one year old and due to poor husbandry of the previous owner she would just be 3ft long? And my last question; could you make a picture of somebody holding sobek, like you did last year,so we can see how much she is grown? thanks! greetings, barry

Hello, I would hope people would understand, monitors want to stay in burrows(hides) at all temperature ranges. Please understand, that staying out in the open is very rare for them. To help you understand, they do bask in the open, the percentage of any type or species being in the open is a very very small percentage of its lifetime.

When in the open, they are somewhat stressed, they naturally know that they are in danger. While captives do have those dangers and soon learn to tolerate the open more often. They still perfer to live their life hidden(in safty)

How about, they really only relax when safe. To be safe, they are hidden. In these areas they also thermoregulate. Good Luck FR
