second sexing ive read so far to look for bumps or pours(simaler to iguana?) by the back legs is this true, and also it doesnt like to be held might be a bit more diffecult....

First off Congrats on the new gecko!

Substrate: I would not reccomend sand. Especially if it a young leopard. Any of the following would be a better choice and greatly cut down on problems and possible death in the long run, paper towels, news paper, slate, or ceramic tiles.

Sexing is just as you desribed.

Good Luck! Keep us posted.

I keep all of my geckos on padded shelf liner. I had them all on sand for a long time until my male started eating his sand so I changed it to keep him from getting impacted later. As far as sexing goes yes there are pores near their back legs, deep prodominate pores means that its a male and pores that you can hardly see means thats its a girl. I hope that helps.

I've got info on sexing on the "Breeding" page of my site (link in sig). As for substrate I recommend tile (vinyl or stone). It's cheap, easy to clean and it looks nice and it's completely safe for the gecko.

Does the tile fit easily in a 10 gallon aquarium/28 qt. Sterilite or do you find yourself doing alot of cutting and fitting? Thanks!
