Giant and crested Geckos

johndoe10688 Jul 15, 2003 07:15 PM

1. Which one is more handleable?
2. Do either enjoy being handled?
3. Are either likely to bite?
4. Are they as good of a pet as a leopard gecko(i have heard that they are?
5. What are the differences between the subspecies of the giants?
6. Which subspecies would you recommend?
7. If i am looking for a tame handleable lizard with somewhat of a personality and friendlyness, are the Rhacodactylus geckos the right lizards to look at?

I have been thinking of either getting a few crested geckos or one giant gecko. I want they cresteds b/c I would be able to breed them. I want the giants b/c of there size and they look like they are calm and mellow.

Thanks!
John

Go for the cresteds. They are wonderful animals and once they get past their jumpy baby phase are very handable. Leachies can be a little bit more temperamental (esp the main island form), but most are pretty docile. However I would not recommend them for newbies, esp since they are such expensive animals ($300-500 for hatchlings). The crested geckos will be a good practice run if you ever want to get them in the future. Best of luck.
