I was wondering if anyone has housed basilisks and water dragons together I already have 2 basilisks 1 male 1 female and I was just wondering if both species can be housed together if the enclosure is big enough

I was wondering if anyone has housed basilisks and water dragons together I already have 2 basilisks 1 male 1 female and I was just wondering if both species can be housed together if the enclosure is big enough
How big is big enough? I have had a 6X9 room dedicated to my waterdragons and wasn't able to add a pair of mountain horned lizards. They got along accept that the mountain horned lizards had to accept a submissive role, which caused them to eat less and not to breed. I suspect that you would have the same results with basilisks, at best, either the waterdragons or the basilisks would thrive while the other suffered the effects of submission.
To my understanding mountain horned lizards grow up to 12"
and the water dragons grow between 2-3 feet long the water dragons are double the size unless you housed them when they were young. But thank you for your oppinion
Actually bigger isn't better, Waterdragons are far more likely to tolerate a small lizard then one that is their size. In the wild they routinely ignore babies, and juveniles in their territory, its when they start to get the size of breeding adults that they pay attention. And actually the water dragons weren't aggressive at all towards the mountain horned lizards, it was the mountain horn lizards that were intimidated by the Waterdragons, just being there.
I would say that if you are going to mix lizards, you have to have lizards that occupy other evolutionary niches. I have kept skinks, and various geckos. with my water dragons without issue. Ground iguana's would be a good choice as well if you were looking for something bigger, although you have to have a cage big enough for the waterdragons to spend most their time in the branches and still have enough space same with ground space in relation to the ground iguanna's. Two aboreal species like the waterdragons and basilisk are bad mix, in my opinion, if you do it, plan on only have having one male of either species.
I had a female bassie with my pair of water dragons, and she was very aggressive, both to me and my dragons. I ended up having to segragate the cage and finally gave the bassie away.

Mom to:
1 little boy born 7/19/04
2 male RES, born 1999
1 ribbon snake, age unknown
3 FBT, ages unknown
1 female bearded dragon, born 5/2002
1 male lab mix, born 5/24/03
1 female calico cat, born 6/7/04
1 common musk turtle hatchling

don't. if you can't afford another correctly sized habitat for a water dragon, then don't be silly and buy it. they come from different parts of the world, have different attitudes and occupy the same niches. it would create stress. this hobby isn't about how many you own, it's about how well you care.
thnx.
