good lizard

toad112081 Jul 17, 2005 05:48 PM

I've been into reptiles for a while. My daughter is looking for a new lizard but most of what I've kept have been snakes or large monitors. She wants something that she can handle and interact with.(undersupervision of course!) She's only six but she already has a corn snake so she's used to herps. Just wandering what you would suggest! Thanks, Zack

As far as handling goes, I'd say a bluetongue skink. They make very good pets. Heres a very good site on them:

We have a bearded dragon and a crested gecko. Both of ours are young (BD 6 mos, Crested 3 mos). I really like both, but for handling I'd have to say the BD. Ours will just lounge out on the kids and is really calm. The crested jumps every time it is startled and really hasn't settled down yet. He's not terrible if I'm holding him after his initial hand walking bit upon coming out of the cage... but if there is a sudden noise or one of the kids comes up wanting to hold him, etc.. he jumps again & it's back to chasing him (and wanting to avoid that due to possiblity of tail loss). That's just my 2cents, though the cresteds do feel so cool (very satin like).
