Calhoun Co., TX Holbrooki/Splenida intergrade hatchling...

jlassiter Jul 17, 2005 11:04 PM

In the midst of all that is going on here I was able to get a decent pic of one of the hatchling I was able to hatch out from some wild collected eggs...They were collected by Todd Hughes (antelope) from the same place a nice yellow/orange intergrade specimen was collected. I wonder if these hatchlings will get yellower as they mature.
Thanks for looking,
John Lassiter

Very NICE, Yellow or White, gonna be nice!

Thanks Jetzen....
I would prefer the yellow/orange like the adult specimen that Todd collected from the same area, but either way they should be awesome. I am sure they will look better after their first shed.

but even if doesn't yellow up, it's a sharp looking snake. Will be nice to see the pics as it grows up.

Todd is letting me keep a pair and he will keep the other two...I have not determined the sex ratio of the 4 hatchlings yet.
And yes it will be interesting to see how it matures.
Thanks Kerby.
BTW....You get any widestriped calking eggs this year?
I am still looking for a good looking female for my male I got from Don Shores....

I have (1.2) and they are 2 years old. I bred them and only one female took and she laid 3 really long eggs, longer than long eggs I've seen in the past. So we shall see what pops out. 23 August will be their day 60. I will let you know and of course post pics. My first clutch of cal kings were due on Friday. So like most years it will take 60-70 days for them to hatch.

Certainly let me know what emerges from those long eggs.
I am still looking for a nice female before my male gets too old to breed....LOL
I know it will take a while before he gets too old......
I had a 9 year old virgin male calking breed for the first time 5 years ago. The female laid 8 fertile eggs and all hatched. He is 14 years old now, but I don't breed him anymore....He was my first snake when I seriously started keeping snakes in 1991.....

That is neat. I would not be able to identify that if you hadn't told me. I look forward to seeing how those turn out. Very cool, and even cooler it was hatched from eggs found in the field.

Have lived in 7 western states, a frequent hiker & bushwacker, yet I have only encountered a Rattlesnake twice in 45 years. Have never seen a Kingsnake, and I lived for 10 years in CA!

You eastern folk who continually find wild snakes & their eggs have me GREEN with envy. (Maybe it's partial compensation for your more humid summers??)

Enjoy your week!

lol! i live in Georgia and i havent ever seen a wild snake either, and my backyard is perfect for many, so dont feel so bad lol, i go camping very often all in the southeast and i have never seen anything. one time when i was 7 or 8 i saw a snake that i am pretty sure that it was a king, in my front yard, but back then i was scared out of my skin from snakes, now i let them crawl all over me lol

i have one Brooks Kingsnake, hopefully breeding in the next couple of years! yaaahhhh, only if i can find a male though lol, but im still looking for a male lol
