Hello to all,
I have prior experience with Kingsnakes, Cornsnakes, and Ball Pythons. I'm ready for my next snake and I am really interested in Carpet Pythons. Should I seriously consider these snakes or should I possibly look into another large boid before taking on one of these babies? Any opinions? Thanks.

Carpets are great as a first snake - and you sound like you have more than enough experience. If you want, go with an Irian Jaya, or one of the other smaller localities of carpets.

I wouldn't really call carpets "large boids", they're really more an intermediate size (avg ~6-8 feet). Their husbandry is really easy, they're very forgiving of mistakes, they usually have a great feeding response, and they generally tame easily. I'd say you should go for a carpet *before* you get another large boid.

As a general rule, if you want a smaller carpet get an Irian Jaya/West Paupan, if you want a larger carpet get a coastal, and jungles are generally right in the middle.
