Attack Gecko!

kirkpatrick Jul 18, 2005 02:56 PM

A little over a week ago I got a beautiful 70g giant male from Ron Tremper. He's been kind of angry when my boyfriend goes near him but he seems to like me(or so I thought). Last night I was giving him some loving attention, then he freaked out when I went to put him in his cage. As soon as his feet hit solid ground he jumped up and started nawing on my finger! I was so strartled, especially since these guys are the nicest animals ever. Seventy grams of lean mean fighting machine left my finger shredded and plenty of blood to clean. Im not mad at him or anything, I understand he was probably freaked out, but jeez, I didnt think leopard geckos were that crazy. Just a story to share about the cute cuddely animals everyone loves.

You're not the only one this has happened to. I haven't been bitten by my females yet but my male bit me at the pet store the day that I bought him. He's also bitten me when I fill his mealworm bowl and sometimes when I put him back in his tank if he thinks he hasn't been out long enough. The best way that I've found to keep him from biting me is to leave him in his tank for a while and not take him out even when he asks to keep him from biting me again and it seems to work for my male since he bites me less now, in fact I haven't been bitten in a long time since I started that.
