Breeding U.phantasticus

DragonWiz Jul 15, 2003 09:25 PM

Hi, I have had a wc pair together for more than 5 months. They have been treated for parasites twice so far. I later introduced a 7/8 month cb girl that I got from the april whitplains show. Now I know that she will not breed at this age but I was hoping that she would intice the other 2 to breed. The humidity never drops below 70. Is their any suggestions any body can give me to even get an egg?

Thanks
Daniel Martin

the abilene zoo has been very successful breeding phantasticus. They keep them in ten gallons with about an inch of sphagnum moss as substrate. One small plant and the top of the aquarium covered 85% with plastic. They mist them in the mornings and afternoons. I would guess temperatures are about high of 83 and low of 73.

My phantasticus bred for me at different times of the year and different groups at different times. My first trio would breed in the winter and lay eggs in the winter. My second trio and my U. sikorae bred and laid eggs in the summer. I can't remember when they breed in the wild and when that season is according to northern hemisphere seasons. In my experience, WC U. phantasticus will breed at either one of these times. So either they'll breed soon, or wait til winter, or maybe not at all. They're tricky, what can I tell ya.
