Gravid Corn!

kingsnaken Jul 18, 2005 06:29 PM

I mated my female albino with my high yellow creamsicle male, and I thought nothing happened. I held her the other day, and I felt the lumps in her belly. She is Gravid. If the eggs are good, I wonder what I'll get from those 2. I made an incubator that has stayed at 86 degs. constantly for 2 days. Hope everything works out. This is my first time breeding snakes. If you mated your female amel with a creamsicle male you should get all creamsicle babies. A creamsicle is just an amel hybrid (great plains rat x corn) and any babies of a hybrid should be sold as such to avoid any confusion as to what people are getting.

I think your incubation temps are a bit high. High temps in incubation is often associated with kinking (though I don't think a positive correlation is proven though).

86F is OK as long as your sure it's stable. However, being that high leaves little room for error during peroids of warm up. Question becomes does the temps spike over 90F or higher at any point during the heating cycle in your system.

I'd target a slightly lower temp just to be on the safe side... say 82-84F?

Thank you very much. I did turn it down just a bit so it would spike to about 86 degs, just in case. It is in a basement where temps are usually around 68-70 degs. Thanks, Derek
