A few of my black rats. Here you go Dwight!

John Q Jul 15, 2003 09:34 PM

Well it took me a couple of weeks but I finally got around to taking some pictures of my black rats. The adults are the ones I posted in the classifieds. I'm hoping to get a few whitesided hatchlings from the eggs in the cooker.

Here's my largest male. A solid 5ft plus, solid, and 100% het for whiteside.

This is one of my two adult females that are 100% het for whiteside.

This is my trio of 2 year olds. The male is the whiteside. One female is 100% het for whiteside 66% het for albino. The other female is 100% het for albino 66% het for whiteside. Not sure why the one female is taking so long to make the color change. Any thoughts on this?

This is the female hypo lavender virgin that I was considering breeding to the male and then breeding the hatchlings to try and produce some whitesided lavender black rats. Just too many projects.

Your hypo lavander is very nice! They are all nice but I especially like that one. Later, Randy W.

Obsoletas for sure, but your adults look very similar to our native Black/Texas intergrades. Is the pattern retention a characteristic of the whiteside genes? (Our natives tend more toward tan, orange, red, brown vs. what looks to be more gray/white on yours.)

In any case, very nice animals! michaelb

Nice snake, I have an adult male that looks just like him. Mine is double het licorice and albino, he fathered an albino licorice in 2001. He is a bruiser and can easily wolf down large rats.

Hmmm, well a thought certainly comes to mind based on the source of your adult animals. Are these younger animals from the same source? I won't speculate on the forum though, that would not be appropriate. I'll send you an email.

Sounds like a lackluster project to me, lol. Look how the albino licorice project has flopped. I don't think a lavender licorice would be much better, IMHO. But nice lavenders like the one you have pictured would certainly be worth propagating. There is a pretty good demand for the high purple/red lavenders. That is a nice looking snake.

Thanks for the pics.
