Summer Monsoons

lepidus2 Jul 18, 2005 10:40 PM

Ideally when would you want the rain to start and stop before herping during the monsoons in Az? For example, rain in the afternoon and herp that evening, rain that evening and herp immediately afterwards, or is it like west Texas where they say it is best 2-3 days after a rain? Thanks in advance.

The rains are a product of the monsoon season. Once the monsoon season arrives the typical day is:

Clear mornings without a cloud in the sky, higher humidity as the days goes on, thunderheads building up and then heavy isolated rains in the afternoon.

It can do this for days on end, so I wouldn't wait 2-3 days after........

I go right before dark and into the night........

....last time we talked...ya gotta call me, cuz Im not typn everything w/ 2 fingers....

To summarize...

...note the best hunters are out there all the time...dry/moist/moon/no-moon/windy/etc...if they have $.... they hunt ....they understand probability....

They understand like Kerby...you must move into the night...

Worry less about perfect conditions....hunt when you can....analyze your results when the juniper logs are spitting & a cracking on a cold Dec morn....

Over time you'll become meore effective but many of us have seen nites...... full of rodents...pavements moist & steaming....grass up to the shoulder...& nary a snake all nite....???? Go figure.....
