A few questions on bearded dragons

lizardboy696969 Jul 15, 2003 09:45 PM

First off what do you incubated the eggs in? Do you seal or do you not seal the container? What temperature do you incubate eggs at? And is the sex off the babys determined on the temp. the are incubated at? How much do bury the eggs in what ever you incubate them in? And a few questions that do not relate to incubation. How young do you start to let beardies swim? And last but not least How long do beardies live?

>>First off what do you incubated the eggs in?
I use a hovabator, bought from a local feed store. Eggs are in a vermiculite/sand mix

Do you seal or do you not seal the container?
Don't seal the incubator. There is air exchanged with the embryo through the shell, and I would think circulated are would be better

What temperature do you incubate eggs at? 84-88. Mine hatch within 65-68 days at that temperature. Also, keep the humidity at 80-90%. Get yourself a combo thermometer and humidity guage, about $10 at Kmart

And is the sex off the babys determined on the temp. the are incubated at? No

How much do bury the eggs in what ever you incubate them in?
About 2/3 in the vermiculite/sand mixture.

And a few questions that do not relate to incubation. How young do you start to let beardies swim? Beardies don't really swim for recreation. A soak while shedding is helpful, but they don't really need to "swim"

And last but not least How long do beardies live? 15-20 years
