Cypress mulch okay for tortoise substrate?

morrison720 Jul 19, 2005 07:54 AM

Does anybody have any experience with commercially available cypress mulch (like at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.)? Seems like pine and cedar are generally frowned upon, but I have never heard much about cypress mulch. It is very aromatic, not sure if that poses a problem. I am considering using it for my three sulcatas, all about6-7 inches.

Thanks!

Thats the best substrate I have found yet!!! Make sure there is no pearlite or vermiculite in the topsoil. Also I bake mine in the oven at 400F for about an hour for my indoor enclosures (kills any bugs...)

Cypress mulch is excellent, I use a thick bed of it. No problems.
