Spaying female veileds?

gonexenopus Jul 19, 2005 10:58 AM

ok, i had my dog the vet the other day and i was talking to him about my chameleons. we were talking about their egg laying behavior and such and he said that a vet in my area, will actually spay female veileds! BUT he will not spay them upon request. he will suggest spaying the chameleon if it is egg bound and is in need of surgery. has anyone heard of spaying a female chameleon? not them i'm considering spaying my two since they lay eggs just fine. but i was wondering what anyone thinks of this or if anyone has heard of it?

Yes, definitely. A few are done, but I suspect we don't hear about others on the forum. I know of several female quadricornis who have survived spaying as well as veileds and panthers. It is risky for many reasons of course, as by the time the vet may decide spaying is the only option the cham is already in trouble and a poor surgery risk.
