Pine woods eating: Bites anole

Oxyrhopus Jul 19, 2005 11:36 AM

One of my Pine Woods allowed me to take this photo which is quite difficult as they are easily frightened. It grabbed the anole and they flipped and twirled a bit into the water bowl and the pinewoods held on for several minutes until anole stopped moving.

Hi,
Beautiful pine woods snake. I once had a very nice one. That is my favorite species of American snake, second to brown snakes. Actually... well, I just love all snakes! Anyway, the pine woods that I had did very well. He eventually accepted small earthworms with gusto, before falling victim to a terrible outbreak of crypto in my collection. To bad that they aren't more popular...

Dan,

Awesome pics. I've been meaning to get some new pics of mine eating, but my camera doesn't operate at the same caliber as yours so they won't be as good.

Yea, the sitter gave me this camera she picked up at the swap-shop and it is the best present I ever received. I never get a close look at some of my specimens and the camera really shows them at close range and gives me a better appreciation of the reptiles.

Lucky you. I borrow a friend's cam when I need one lol...

Hey the Rhad in the pics, how long has it been captive? Are all of yours jumpy, nervous, etc.? I've had mine for almost a year, and he'll eat in front of me, he won't musk, and he's calm and tolerates a little handling. Like I've told you before... he'll snatch a frog right from my hand. Not too shy I guess.

And how big was the one in the pics?

That is that stub tailed one you know about that I've had for 2 years and it is still jumpy a bit but the other seems more nervous although I try not to ever handle them. I think this one would be close to 16 inches if it had a full tail.
