neglected ig...

thed0gg0ddess Jul 19, 2005 12:12 PM

I just brought home my own baby ig and he's doing fine...I was given a few good websites and I've already learned a lot on proper care and feeding.

Anyway, last night I went to a guys house that I had never been to before, I know the guy but I had no idea he had an ig. He apparently hates it and doesn't take care of it. I got my friend to get it out of it's cage and for the first minute or so it was trying to bite, but calmed down after he was rubbing its head. It must be maybe 3 feet nose to tail tip.. it's body is about exactly the same length as the 20 gallon long tank its in. It gets worse! No heat or UVB.. all it has is a 100watt HOUSE lightbulb for its tank. It was on cedar chips and had no food or water... It's pale and thin... it's entire head is gray (I don't know if that has to do with the sex?) he said it's probably 3-4 years old. If I bring it home it'll need a lot of work... I don't really know anyone around here who could take it though?? I live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota..

Unless u find someone with knowledge and experience for it, it will die soon. In the meantime, u could keep it temporarily, despite the hard work to come. Or if you have friends who can, ask them to temporarily keep it while u look for a good potential owner. But yeah, that animal will surely die if not rescued.

Would you be willing to learn how to ship? I could take it in, but I live far away so a pick-up isn't an option. Also, if you don't want to go this route, there are reptile rescues around. Although they are scarce, you may be able to find one near you.
