Just got back from Las Vegas, the land of the chuckwalla (or so I had HOPED!). Got myself up early and took walks around rubble piles right near the casinos, looking in cracks and crevices in any rock piles I could find. Got up REAL early (4 a.m.) for the Grand Canyon trip. Once we got there (around 9 a.m.), I strolled around very slowly for the hour's visit. Everyone else was looking out at all the rock formations in the canyon. I had my back to all that good stuff as I scrutinized the rock walls real close to and directly in front of me. Always the oddball. Checked out any crevices I could find, but found NO CHUCKS! No desert igs. No collared lizards. No rattlers. NADA. Coulda had something to do with the temps in Vegas last week ... highs ranged from 113 to 116 degrees. What chuck in his right mind would be parading about in THAT kind of heat? Coulda also been because those creatures don't live at the Grand Canyon. I don't know these things. Maybe I'll get lucky next trip.
