venomous snakes in florida

hawiiangecko Jul 19, 2005 05:24 PM

hey everyone,
this is my first time posting in the venomous forum. i recently moved from pensylvainia to florida. i know in PA you cam walk into the hamburg reptile show and buy a rattlesnake no questions asked, but in florida its a whole different story. well i do NOT want to start a conflict but i have wanted a venamoid for some time. i want a snake i can respect and "handle" without the possibility of serious harm. well my question is, can i get a venamoid without all those florida laws and restrictions, time, and money involved? and just courious, if before i did move i obtained a venomoid/venomous snake and took it with me to forida would the pensylvainia laws aply to me or would the florida laws come into play?

The venomoid debate is old and a pathetic waste of time, if you want to talk about that crap, then please take it to the venomoid forum where there are actually people that will give you the answers that you wish to hear. Despite anyones recommendations or info you are most likely going to do what you wish to do. And yes you will be abiding by Florida laws since that is where you reside.

Respectfully,

chris

I know of six confirmed full blown envenomations from "venomoid" animals.

How well do you trust the sticker on the deli cup?

well first things first, goini04 i didnt know there was a venomoid forum. and what you said was nowhere near "respectful." i know you and everyone else in this forum dont like venomoids but i thought it was my best option. and rattler456, i dont tust those people, i do believe in venomoids but i do hate people who do it just to make a buck. there are only two places that i would trust which are centralfloridareptilebreeders.com and venomoids inc. i dont want to start an argument so please just read this and dont reply with a nasty comment. i hate backyard jobs, it descusts me but if done right i do like it. i probably wont post here again so good luck to all you people and your herps!

I think you and your herps will most likely need the luck!! Good luck!

I was more disgusted by your responses than this persons choice to perhaps get a venomoid. Does no one give answers to questions anymore?

Perhaps if this person was allowed to stick around this forum, their opinion may sway after reading and learning.

>>I was more disgusted by your responses than this persons choice to perhaps get a venomoid.

that is certainly your right to choose

Does no one give answers to questions anymore?

yes we do, however, what good is it going to do for those individuals that just don't seem to care and listen.

read this thread:

then read this thread:

and then come back and tell me whether just gently talking to these people really get's the job done.

*Im not trying to be an a$$, but I am just getting tired of all of these people that are constantly looking to get people riled up, and if they are seriously looking for information and advice, they let it go through one ear and out the other if it's not what they wanted to hear*

Sorry for the rant.

Best Wishes,

Chris

I just think you jumped down this person's neck, when perhaps they were not part of the stereotypical venomoid fan base. I thought their asking about state lines was a bonafide question.

And if of course you are so certain that whatever you (we) say won't change the person then why say anything?

kid about venomoids? You are kidding right?

I am adamantly opposed to venomoids, but will try to answer your questions. In Florida (and everywhere else, I imagine), there is no distinction between a venomoid animal and one that is fully armed. That being said, you will have to obtain a Florida venomous permit to buy/own a venomoid and the only way around it is to break the law.

As to your other question, you would need a FL license to bring a venomoid into the state even if you acquired it elsewhere. It appears that you have researched the requirements for obtaining a FL license, so I won't go into that.

I fully understand your desire to own a snake that you can respect and "handle". There are literally hundreds of nonvenomous snakes that are absolutely beautiful and quite easy to handle. For example, I have a 4' male Pueblan milksnake (Lampropeltis triangulum campbelli) in my office that is stunning to look at and as gentle as a lamb.

Again, I am not trying to preach, but would encourage you to maybe consider a nonvenomous for now and start your venomous training for a license. After 1,000 or more hours experience with a good teacher, you will have the knowledge and ability to deal with true venomous animals. They are absolutely facinating and you won't have to help support the venomoid trade. Hope this helps a little.

...get something other than a venomoid. i thought i couldnt in the first place but was just making sure. i've been looking at some boas and green tree pythons over the last week and think im gonna get one of those instead. i would alsolike to agree with joeysgreen in that yelling gets you NOWHERE on a forum. i read a little message thing on the bottum of someones message somewhere but i foget where exactly but i found it funny. it read: arguing in forums is like competing in the soecial olimpics, even if you do win your still retarded.
thanks again
