Hondo laying eggs. . .a couple questions. . .plz answer. . .

idaviss Jul 19, 2005 06:09 PM

I was VERY surprised today to find one of my gravid hondo's laying eggs. She hasn't shed since I first noticed ovulation. Ovulation was about 40 days ago. Has anyone ever had a colubrid(honduran in particular) lay eggs without a prelay shed? Also if so, has anyone ever hatched eggs from a colubrid that did not have a prelay shed? So far six of seven are out, one freshly deposited. Out of the first five, three outwardly appear good and four show veins. Also I'd like to hear any opinions on why she would deposit without a prelay shed.

Thanks,
Ian Daviss

While speaking with Terry Dunham, we came to a conclusion that it was more likely that I forgot to record her latest shed. Rather than her depositing without a prelay shed. But on the off chance that we (I) are incorrect, I'd like to hear any other experiences relating to a similar situation.

Thanks,

If you keep records, how long after laying did the female shed?

Good luck with your clutch,

Ian, I've never heard of any colubrid laying eggs without the pre lay shed. It has however been noticed many times with pythons.

A good friend of mine had his honduran lay fertile eggs the very next day following the pre lay shed which is very puzzling...

It was even weirder than that Marc!

She laid two eggs on the same day of the pre-lay shed and eight more the day after...

All of them still look good!
