Yet ANOTHER question about Eastern X Hypo Brooksi...

Kinglvr Jul 19, 2005 09:51 PM

Hey all, I'm just wondering (Rainer, eager to hear your reply especially)would crossing a Hypo Brooksi with say a Carolina Eastern Chain yield CLOSE TO the same results as breeding a Hypo Brooksi to say a Northern Florida or a Georgia Chain King? For example, all of these Goini LOOK-ALIKES or whatever you want to call them that have been circulating the boards lately ("MUTTLY for instance). Are those produced from once specific Eastern Chain, or can you breed the Brooksi with an array of Eastern Chains to get ALMOST the same look? Sorry if I sound confused because, it's only because I am.

I am going to try and be as unbiased as possible but I have not seen any eaastern x brooksi as nice as mine. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I will not tell anyone that my snakes are better looking than theirs.

I crossed a eastern king to a hypomelanistic brooks king. The person I got the eastern king female from was a breeder in Florida by the name of Kevin Enge. He called them Bumblebee kings because they had wide red/oranges bands. He told me they were a N. Florida locale but the following year he told me they were goini x eastern (n. Florida locale) with the goini bred out to help the orange bands look better.

I bred my hypo brooksi male from the Loves to a female Bumblee king to creat hets (1x het ).

Here is mom and dad:L'Amore

Here is what mom and dad produced. A eastern x hypo brooksi (an F1 gen baby)that is het for hypomelanism.

here is the same snake as above a year later. See how it lighten up on the pattern.

I kept a few of these easternxbrooksi that were het for hypo and bred them. Here is a hypo the above yearling produced (this is called F2 generation):

Its siblings (F2's) were normals but came out very dark black. Similar to an eastern king. I don't know what happened to all the orange and red xantophores.

This year I bred the same F1 gen together again this year and got this snake on the left hatched yesterday.. It is not black and white like the previous years offspring. It looks identical to its parents:

Hope you enjoyed.

You would think this cross would make dark brown offspring, not the light animals you produced. I still can't believe how light your juvi F1 is, considering that the hypo gene has no effect in the normals. I get the feeling that if you removed the hypo gene from the brooksi parent, that it would still be a very yellow normal in order to make offspring that are so light when crossed with a black snake. Or maybe it's the history of red traits in the eastern's line you spoke about. Whatever it is, they make great looking babies.

Wow, thank you very much Rainer, your snakes are indeed very beautiful. So, the female parent in the first pic is a N.Floridana Eastern Crossed with a Goini? Hmmm, very interesting. I love the shape of her head, she's a very gorgeous snake. Thanks again.
