Florida Banded questions

PrestonJarvis Jul 19, 2005 10:47 PM

I have a baby FL Banded water snake. Is this snake a good kind to raise? I don't know what to expect from this snake as it grows. Should I let it go?

Thanks,
Preston

yeah florida bandeds are just as good as any other water snake I would say.. Just ask Justin Sticklin on this forum.. He has his eating pinkies and baby rabbits lol...

They are very simple to keep if you have access to any kind of fresh water fish. then you can scent rodents, bla bla bla. Just go to http://www.freewebs.com/mikesnake/garterswaters.htm and if you have any more questions ask them. If you can't take care of it, it would be best to release it soon. but they are very easy to keep and more fn than other snakes to me.

Well said, Justin!
Florida Bandeds are very satisfying snakes to rear as they tend to be terrific feeders. They grow fast, and become aquainted with feeding in no time flat! As noted above, Justin can explain how to get them to eat just about anything, even pickles, I'll bet!
Their care is very simple (un-demanding) and they (nerodia) tend not to have the "snooty" personalities that so many rodent only eaters have.

oh you didn't see the pic of em eating pickles? lol. I don't think I will try that, I figure it would not be very beneficial. Tomarrow morning... I am finally starting on my water racks!!!!!!!!! When completed I can house any species of american watersnake, regardless of size and more thna one. I can really start on my projects then because everything will be simplified and right there instead of scattered everywhere. There will be 37 boxes and when they are filled (not o[bleep]ing my big boids and ringnecks and queens and a few other exceptions) I will build another rack.

We've been waiting a while to see this "rack" sytem in place ... quite exciting, actually! I still have'nt started my new terrariums yet either. Finances and time keep getting in the way.
But despite my excuses, the nerodia are doing well and growing. Take pictures of your progress, eh!
