Alburqurque, NM, final hearing on Aug 1st?

Katrina Jul 19, 2005 11:36 PM

As posted on another list:

"The ordinance has been in the works since mid 2004 and revised twice. It has been publicized in the local papers over this stretch of time and there should be no one caught by surprise.... The final? hearing is Monday, 8/1. All the truly interested parties can appear at City Hall and sign in for their chance for 2 minutes of addressing the full council and TV cameras."

I'm not sure how much of the current ordinance is in the proposed ordinance, but the proposed one would make anything not a cat, dog, or bird into an "exotic" and require a $35 annual permit for EACH "exotic"! And require monthly reports to the mayor!

It is also very restrictive and intrusive for breeding any animal. I would urge anyone in any state interested in keeping "exotics" to call or e-mail in to the city council, as there are people that want to use this ordinance as a template for other cities to follow!

goldfish an exotic in which they are. See the scenario as they tried the same before in KC MO and some other places. Won't work because of.......there will be so many revisions or confusions that it will make city hall spin. AND how will the population of Alberqurque know of such law in which I keep saying all the time when something comes up or is passed like this. Misdemeanors for everyone if caught and normally thrown out of court if fought. In Shawnee KS they wanted to pass a city ordinance on "exotics" of a permit and money attached to the permit of about the same that would of involved a kid keeping the hermit crab that might of cost him or his parents like $2.98 for the animal. It was deemed really stupid and again not a well thought out proposal because it would of included any and all tropical fish, the anole, hermit crab, practically any bird including canaries, parakeet, and finch even though bred in captivity the origin of these were non-domesticated and not from this country. Oh that's another thing, what is " exotic " ? The horse, pig, the cow. or is it just based on pets and not livestock in which there's that play of words again and thoughts..............I keep wishing that they would do something like this in my state ( city laws won't effect me because i don't and never will live in city limits again ) so I can turn all of these ridiculous laws back in their faces with either the popular loop hole syndrome or just the blain, ignorant, non-enforcement issue !
