Ensure/pedialite?

RedQuake Jul 15, 2003 11:04 PM

Hi i've read of people using ensure and or pedialite to help hydrate animals..... My guy is still not back 100% yet and i was wondering if either of these would be better than using the repti-emergency aide stuff. Also what flavour do you guys feed? The antibiotic looks to be working cause i've seen him eat and drink but not enough to really add weight. I've found a supplier of waxworms so i can get some now but until then (thursday when the shippment will come) what kinds of ensure can i give?

Thanks all

Since you mentioned your leo was treated with antibiotics, you might also want to give your leo a couple licks of live culture yogurt (any flavor) to replace the good bacteria that the antibiotics killed. I use cherry flavor pedialyte but haven't used ensure before.

I never even thought of that.......the antibiotics killing off the normal bacteria. What a great idea, thankyou. I will get some live culture yogart for sure

Well you could use a little, but if so go with the ensure becuase you cna give too much pedalite. :-], if he is having trouble gaining weight then a little wont hurt him, but always feed his normal insect diet along with it. I have used the strawberry, they seem to like it more but you could try vanilla, don't go with the chocolate. Good luck!

Thankyou all very much

This morning he was out of his cave so i thought a little misting could do him good seeing as i haven't seen him shed at all. For a sick leo, he was up and running back to his cave faster then i've ever seen him go.

Thanks again
