Possibly blood in my snakes feces??!?

Kinglvr Jul 20, 2005 06:57 PM

Hey guys, I just got done feeding Lexus (my hypo floridana)1 f/t fuzzy and 2 live fuzzies. Almost immediately after putting her back in her house, she pooped, and it looked as though there was blood in her feces. Needless to say, this has got me bugged. She eats VERY well, and despite her relatively inactive personality, she seems to be on the up and up. Has anyone seen this before? Also, her urates were a little different of a color, almost a pale yellow, it's usually white. She never regurges or anything, so it's really got me stumped. It was also in the corner of the cage that has the reddish colored fir tree bark. I took out a piece and got it wet with water and it turned red, so maybe the liquid from her feces just made the bark look like there was blood on it, but I'm almost positive it was blood. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm thinking I'm gonna wait until she defecates again, and if it is for sure blood I'll take her to the vet.

Thanks in advance you guys.

Yellow urine is normal so dont worry about that but blood isnt. There are numerous reasons for blood in stools some are parasites or infection or even blockages i.e. a piece of bedding like wood shavings etc... Keep an eye on it if it keeps happening then get it to a Vet.

Thanks alot Keith. It seems as though she's in good health. No mouth rot, consistent defecating, has NEVER regurgitated, and she eats like a BEAST. She does burrow most, if not all of the day though, showing signs of laziness. That might just be her personality though. Everytime I handle her and take her out, she gets good exercise so I guess it's not that bad.

You should take a look at the pics I posted of her Keith. Nothing like the pictures you take, but it's a start.
