Yea - I finally found a setting on my camera that let me capture my albino's coloration! Albino question too

LauraV Jul 20, 2005 10:43 PM

I was just playing around and thought to try something new. Usually her color is comes out flash white in the camera. Yuck...certainly not an insentive to post them...
I know many albinos tend to fade out and become mostly yellow. As you can see, she has already lost her orange saddles. But, what is the possibility of her keeping her orange stripes on her sides? I imagine she will lose it too, but it would sure be nice if she coralled up.

Sorry, pics are big to show color.

I truly am a photo dunce. About all I can do with a camera is point and shoot.
So, please pardon my crude descriptions.
First, I had the camera set in macro mode. Then, I turned my little dial to the picture of a sun behind a man. I assume this setting is for bright days, though I took the pic indoors under normal lighting. What it seemed to do is lessen the amount of flash my camera used (I can not go w/o a flash, as it blurs the pic and distors the color). It also appeared to have a much faster shutter speed, not the usual second delay.
I will surely try this on my other boas during their next photo shoot, though it probably works best with light boas.
By the way, my camera is a Nikon 775. We have the 4800, but half my pics had a blue tinge to them, so even though it is supposed to have a better macro shot, I'll stick to the older model.

Thank you for the update on the camera settings. Such a big difference a few setting changes can make Nice work.

It sounds like a setting used when the sun/light source is back lighting (behind) the subject. Without any light being directed at the subject the face can remain dark. So this setting probably fires the flash to brighten up the dark areas but not enought to wash out the colors. Just a guess but regardless it works beautifully.

This is how the pic usually turned out with normal shoot mode and normal macro mode.

Poor color:

Looks, she's a snow...even worse color:

Shameful admission...

I did not choose the bright daylight setting (if that is what it is) by thinking about it and using common sense...sigh...it was the next setting up on my dial...

Maybe sometime I will try the other settings...

Good job on the photos! I checked out your comparison shots and it does look like a big difference! I really like the pinkish orange racing stripes down the sides.

Thanks,
Celia

was quite surprised that the pics turned out as they did, can't always tell in a 1" LCD screen. Lot's of pics look good at 1". But, these turned out so natural in color, I was shocked.
No albino I've had so far has had those orange stripes. She's hung onto them longer than her saddles, I sure hope they come in more rather than fade away.
