so, guess who ran off with the best (selectively bred) snow male albey is selling this season?

he's so beautiful, and so bright white. he has the faintest lavendar tint, and he's huge! he's as big as some of my smaller females, and he was only born in october! he's a little skittish with regards to handling, but a good eater. i've named him adonis (couldn't help myself). just had to brag to somebody!

You are just so wrong lol. I've wanted a snow for a very long time but I could never find one that I could afford when I was looking for another gecko so I got a snow and blizzard cross breed. She's a sweetheart but I'm jealous because I want a snow too lol

he's the first gecko that i've bought that was anywhere near that expensive. i guess you could say he's the first i've bought with any thought towards 'investment.' i have quite a few snows (and even more 'almosts'), but they are very hard to work with. the vast majority of juveniles that look snow in color eventually take on a yellow tinge (if not turn completely highlighter yellow), and most breeders sell their offspring young. it's even harder for me, since i'm avoiding any line/inbreeding. we shall see how it goes!

very nice gecko you are picking up..i know you've been watching snows closely for a while.. guess it was too much and you caved in just like the rest of us.. if you have any questions about them..feel free to ask as you know i've had them for about 4 years now...

heh-
i guess i gave the wrong impression. i've had snows for three years. i got my first one from albey as well, her name is myrtle (and she was bred for the first time this year. her baby, just one so far, is just adorable). this new guy is just going to be my 'extreme stud.' previously, i've just been building up my females (with the anticipation of some turning out to be males, which some did). i have definitely never paid so much for a gecko before, but i knew the time was right. next year, some of my newest (and most fabulous) girls will be all set to go. i'm considering breeding this new fellow to one female only (and only since he's so extremely large) soon, just to get his waterworks set to go for next year, and as a sort of test of temperment. if he does breed this year, it will be to a nice striped pastel i have named lucretia (who has not been bred before either). this whole season has been the 'testing' season, and it's gone pretty well (some females shooting some blanks and singles, and me making a few mistakes), quite a few more eggs in the cooker. ultimately, i'm aiming for a fully striped snow, and a speckled snow. my speckled project, though, is totally in its infancy. though i adore any snows! the picture you have of your snow is awesome! isn't it weird how the mack super has everyone going ga-ga over the old fashioned snows, and how people keep mixing them up?

sorry about that..thought this was yer first one.

my snow albino project is well on track too.. so far i have been able to get 4 snows het.for albino (male) from my snow x albino giant cross. I suspect one is at least is a giant snow.. only time will tell. i have 9 nice snows to breed to a few of these males.. next year will be interesting..

what you might be able to do is breed a male snow to a bunch of really nice stripe females.. half the offspring will be snows but maybe you'll end up with a stripe snow..

marla Jul 26, 2005 06:11 PM

heh- no problem. i'm going to try it both ways (i have really nice stripe males and females, and nice snow males and females). same with the speckleds, though i have only one speckled of each sex. though since i have the old fashioned snow, the offspring won't come out half and half, so it will take a few seasons.

good luck with the snow albinos- i can't wait to see them!

Do you have a picture of that snow using your own camera preferably with a white backround??

no, sadly not. i don't even have a normal camera, much less a digital one. though i will be getting one when the time comes for a website. though i keep my guys on white paper towel, and he is the only one where i sometimes have to look twice if he's sitting right on it. luckily, he prefers his rock hide to bask on.
