Question about retaining Sperm?

JMills Jul 21, 2005 06:18 AM

Hey there everyone. I am still alittle new to the breeding of balls so I have a question. I have read many people talk about how the female can and will retain sperm from previous breedings. Lets say I have a breeder size Het female. I want to breeder her to my breeder male pastel this year and try to get some Pastel possible hets, while I get my het male up to breeding size for next year. What is the possiblity of Sperm retention for the following year, when the het male is ready to breeder her? Not that it would be a bad thing to pop out some more pastel poss. hets. But it would deffinately stir things up....LOL. Any input is appreciated. Thanks
Joshua

I can't answer your question about retaining sperm, but I can tell you that there is no such thing as a het Pastel. Pastel is a co-dom trait, so breeding a pastel to a normal will produce pastels and normals.

Yes I know that Pastel is Co-Dom. If I bred My pastel Male to a Female Het for something else like Albino, Pied, Ghost, etc. then I would get Pastels possible het for what ever she is het for and Normals possible het for what ever she is het for. Thanks anyway. I guess I should have worded that differently.

Actually....pastel is the visible het for super pastel. Co-dominant is not the same as dominant. That is why you get pastels and normals with a pastel x normal pairing but you get all pastels with a super pastel x normal.
