Caring for eggs?

greywolf Jul 21, 2005 07:57 AM

A friend has a female ball python, who laid eggs a week ago. She hasn't been out of the house for over two years and the last time she was out was when the took her to the vet to have her sexed. So, they certainly weren't expecting eggs. They had a vet look at the eggs, and it appears that 3 of the 5 are fertile (they have them all because they're sort of stuck together). His wife is preganant and says the eggs must go. I said that I would take them, but I don't know what sort of setup I'd need to incubate them. Can anyone help? Also, how should I transport them?

If its been over a week since they were layed and they havent been in the right temperatures there is a chance the clutch is lost... Go to kingsnakes.com main page and check out caresheets to find out breeding and incubation information..

I don't know what sort of set up they're in now, so there's a chance that they're at the right temp.

You need a incubator set at 89-90 degrees put them in a rubbermaid with no air holes.. Put moist vermiculite in the bottom of rubbermaid and eggs on top you dont want to bury them but they should be secure... You also need a hygrometer to measure humidity in the rubbermaid it should be in the high 80's low 90's. Open the rubbermaid once a week to check on eggs and circulate air and you should be fine.. This is a very vague description I wish I had a link to a good webpage on breeding and incubation.. The caresheets are your best bet...
