***** STOLEN CHAMELEON ALERT ******

twinoats Jul 21, 2005 09:53 AM

MISSING as of 7/21/05: large (~75g) male Sambava, predominatly orange/yellow/green, from BREWSTER, NY zip 10509. His cage was COMPLETELY SHUT and LATCHED, with NO WAY THIS CHAMELEON pushed his way thru the door or otherwise escaped the cage on his own. I believe someone came into my backyard on 7/20 afternoon or 7/21 morning and physically took the chameleon and reshut the cage. I cannot believe anyone would do this.

Another large Sambava male of mine went 'missing' recently, but the door was wide open when I found it, so I assumed the chameleon escaped on his own. I am starting to think someone may have stolen that one too. There's just no way a giant chameleon just vansishes without a trace, as I looked (and continue to look) every day.

PICS of stolen cham(s) to follow ASAP. This chameleon is distinctly marked with a missing toenail, documented extensively with recent photos. BEWARE IF ANYONE TRIES TO SELL YOU A SAMBAVA WITH A MISSING REAR TOENAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANGRY IN NY,
~Kerry

I am so sorry about this. Make sure you post something in Fauna Classifieds also. Did you call the police? Also put out fliers!!!

Kerry,

when you mentioned the other one missing recently I recall being surprised by you thinking it was due to your own negligence. In all the time I have "known" you here I found it hard to believe. Now that this has happened I think the first one may very well have been stolen as well. This just really sucks. Are there any shows coming along your way? May want to setup a "sting" of sorts. Also, keep in mind that if someone knew enough about chams to steal quality animals they may also be lurking here.

I really hope you find this person and rip his/her back toenail off!

Rip off something a bit higher up!

That really sucks! I put locks on any outdoor cages I have because people are like that. Though nothing would stop them from cutting through the wires if they wanted but at least it would be a bit of a deterrent.

There are sometimes BAD people out there, they take our children, our animals our cars..... Just is not always a safe place, very sad indeed!

I'm sorry about your pet being taken

We recently had one of our pets stolen from our backyard(SEE PIC). Our Red Foot Tortoise which was rescued by our mailman and given to us was stolen from her enclosure. She was the most adorable tortoise we've ever had. We found the door to our backyard open and no tortoise. It is a pitty, but there isn't much u can do besides prepare for such a thing. We are glad that our chameleon facilities are very secure and under surveillance 24/7.
