Cage plans for boa?

asweet13 Jul 21, 2005 12:47 PM

I am interested in making my first cage for my yearling boa (around 3ft.). She is currently in an 25 gal. aquarium. As she is growing quite quickly, I would like to build something that will give her more room to exercise and will be large enough to house her for the next year or two and allow her to be as happy as possible. The dimensions that I am considering are somewhere around 4' long x 2' high x 2' long. If anyone has any plans, ideas for materials, or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -- Andrew

Read back through this and the previous pages on this forum. There was a thread recently where someone posted a link to a plan that looked pretty good.

Otherwise, your dimensions sound good. I can give other advice but I'll need to know a few things first. Namely, what is your primary goal with this cage? Is it low cost, attractive looks, light weight, or some combination of the three? It's when you try to combine all three that things get tricky.

I'll try to get back to you next week when I'm back in town.

Cost is not my primary concern, but it would seem to only be worth while if I could build it for less than it would cost to buy a cage of similar dimensions. I would also like for it to be fairly light, which, would probably rule out glass. Also I would like to build something easy to clean . . . something I could just take out to the yard and spray down.

I think you have wise goals. I will warn you, however, that building your own light weight cages does not have the cost savings we all got used to back during the era where we all thought melamine was the ideal cage building material.

What tools do you have or do you have access to? For building just a single light-weight cage buying just one inexpensive tool might be too much unless you have other needs for it. If you would only be buying tools for this cage you'd be better off buying a commercial cage.

we sell plans. the cages, and with added features like a water feature, fog, large enough plants, hardscape and cradentials like
20 foot x 5' x 6 for a 1.1 bci we are the only good choice...so i'm told...8-]
