Comparison pic of the Ghost to a normal hypo sibling eastern x brooksi

bluerosy Jul 21, 2005 01:33 PM

This hypo looks identical to the one I hatched last year.

I think the lighter one will lighten up considerably since the normal hypo did.

Normal hypo from last year:

that you have? nothing personal but your flash is killing me. it is hard to say anything about the lighter hypo.

define the terms you are using so the sick and shut ins can follow along at home...

ghost traditionally means in morph language the animal shows hypo and axanthic at the same time. we know where the hypo came from but there is no axanthic contributor unless you dare suggest the eastern king is naturally axanthic. well by golly yes it is a black and white animal, but how do you prove it?

as far as melanistic goes, what do you mean? within a range of variability all eastern kings look like that, yes? you shouldn't be surprised in a morph breeding that you get a NORMAL wild phenotype? calling that creature melanistic is redundant is redundant is redundant. if it came out without crossbars or belly checks you would be onto something dare i say hypermelanistic.

when your morph project spits out an animal that looks like this, then it should be called hyper/melanistic like this hypermelanistic black pine snake...

I posted some pics in a post below that were outdoors. I will be getting better pics after the snake sheds in a about 10 days or so.

I made a post below explaining how I do not like the names assigned to these traits because its not as simple as putting these terms into a neat little box. It looks like a ghost and the pairing did produce some dark animals this and in last years breeding just like a DH to DH breeding should. Whether its a bonafied axanthic/anerythritic, I don't know. I don't think it is. Normally when you have an anery or axanthic crossed to a hypo it is called a Ghost. Some people like giving the name axanthic/anery to something that is not an axanthic/anery. I had this debate for years over the axanthic rosy I produced (BLUE ROSY) and there were other rosys people called axanthic that did not look anything like my neaon blue rosy. Theirs was a dark brown on silver grey with hints of yellow and reds (rose color)so the terms may be the same but the gene is not expressed the exact same way. The snow rosys produced with these "so called" anery/axanthic do show reds as well. I think my "blue rosy" would produce a true snow/ghost.

San Ignacio locale axanthic and normal looking sibling:

I also did a breeding with my peanut butters to another morph and this year. My intent was to produce double hets. What I got last night is something I have never seen before. I have been telling people there is something weird going on with these Peanut Butters for years because the babies the last two years all came out very different looking. Now I bred them to a completly different morph and get a new morph that is not a normal looking het like it is supposed to be...

I'll tell everyone what it is later ..I CAN tell you it's not supposed to happen. Nope, definetly an impossibilty (you would think), but here they are.

(look at the deep purple one in the rt corner)

normal (I think) that was in the same clutch

I'll keep it a secret... cum on tell me ... pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!

ok a guess... Peanut butter X Sulphur lavender.. and u got a snow? or a totally diffrent morph all 2gether in the first generation? Tell me...

its not a PB x lavender. not a PB x axanthic, not a PB x hypo.

ZFelicien Jul 22, 2005 10:51 AM

The only other thing would be white-side... so white-sideXPB????

so what's the morph... it looks like a snow... so what exactly is it... it does appear purple so i guess u have some "jelly" in your peanut butter?

I'm confused...
