peeing/pooping while being held... Help

jenni609 Jul 21, 2005 04:17 PM

I have had my milksnake for 1 month. It seems many times I hold him he goes to the bathroom on me. Does that mean anything?

This is often the temperment of young colubrid snakes; biting, flailing, musking or expelling feces. When your snake gets older (yearling mabey) it should drop this habit. In my experiances with keeping/hatching/raising young colubrids, I have found age and nothing but age to help. Young snakes are pleasant...to look at, though sometimes you get a young one that is tollerant. You should see your snake calm with age, good luck,

Thank you Sean! I am looking forward to my snake growing out of this phase.

What kind of milksnake do you have? Does it flail around?

jenni609 Jul 21, 2005 11:14 PM

I believe my snake is a Pueblan milksnake. Yes, at times he tends to flail, and then he calms down.
How do I post a picture, I will be glad to post one.
Thanks.

i have a tangerine honduran and he did the musking bit when he was younger, he's a 2 year old now. he never poo/peed on me however. now he is great. still a bit nervous when i pick him up but he calms down after being held.
you can go to the 'photo gallery' here on kingsnake and upload a photo that way. or some folks post them somewhere else and list a link. but the photo gallery is free. they just can't be to big.
