How to tell if Corn is Gravid?

jschimiz Jul 21, 2005 05:12 PM

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to breeding snakes and my female is now 3 years old and my male is over 2. I put them together after the female shed and they started twitching and both used the bathroom, but I never actually saw them mate. I left the male in overnight then took him out. That was about 5 weeks ago, and my female just shed again, so should I be expecting eggs soon? From what I've read it seems a little long. I've tried putting them together again since then, but the male just tries to get out of the cage. The female looks big, but she's always pretty big so I can't really tell. I've got the incubator ready and a lay box with sphagnum moss in it with the female just in case. Any ideas?

My best guess is that you will have eggs with in 6-10 days. But if you want to be sure. gently hold the female in your open hands and let her glide back into her cage. You should be able to feel the eggs in the rear 1/3 of her as she crosses over your hands and back into her cage, just a series or bumps in her under belly as she goes. If not give it a week or two and see what you get.
